The woodland character of the Wigton area changes significantly from north to south. Agricultural shelter belts and hedgerow trees dominate the Solway plain to the north, while the ground south of Wigton toward Caldbeck and the Cumbrian fells has more substantial broadleaf and mixed woodland.
